Ｍ・シューマッハは、イギリスＧＰでクルサードがライコネンを簡単に抜かせたことがチームオーダーに当たるのではないかと非難した。
「僕はまったく驚いてるんだ。何の推測もないってことにね。キミがデビッドをいかに簡単にオーバーテイクしたかってことさ。僕にとってあの状況はとてもはっきりしていて、とても普通だよ。」
「デビッドは異なる戦略だった。彼はキミをとても簡単に行かせた。その後、彼は速さを戻して、他のすべてのドライバーには難しくした。キミにしたよりもね。もし同じことがフェラーリに起きたら、大きな賭け事、大きな話題になる。それはマクラーレンで起こり、誰もそのことを話さなかった。おかしいんじゃないか。」

クルサード、サポート役で残留か
クルサードは今季ライコネンのサポート役で来季残留の見通し。
クルサードはライコネンと自分にまつわる噂について語った。
「間違いなく彼は獲れると思う。彼が表彰台に上がり続け、マイケルがそこにいない必要はある。彼はシルバーストンで苦労したが、なんとか納得いくポイントを取れた。僕らは来たるレースでどう演じるかを確認するだろう。最近のレースで僕らは最強の車を持たなかった。でもニュルブルクリングではとても強かった。まだ勝てるし、もっと大事なのは表彰台に上がり続けることだと思う。ごく自然なチームの内緒事は内緒であるべきだと思う。明らかにFIAによりあからさまなチームオーダーを出すことはできなくなっているしね。」
「批判で傷ついたことはない。僕は知っていることを基本に働いている。...そして僕は自分の契約のポジションを知っている。ノルベルトは誰にも良いガイドラインを示したと思う。今、チームが発表するときまで待つことが問題にされる。それは僕への個人攻撃じゃない。今年僕の弱点は予選だが、僕が車をドライビングすることの速さとレースのラップは問題ない。その観点から僕はラップタイムと格闘していない。僕はどんな心配もしていないよ。」
メルセデスのノウベルト・ハウグは語った。
「たぶんわれわれは君らを驚かさないだろう。はっきりとした計画はある。だがいくつかのことが解決される必要はある。個人的には、来年のことは驚かないと思う。よそのチームに何百万も払ってドライバーを取るかなんて、きみらがわれわれのことを読んだろうが、忘れなさい。そう言うのは正しくない。何もそんな風に動いていない。われわれは違約するような者ではないし、くだらないことだ。まったく正しくない。われわれはホームグランプリに集中したい。それが基本だ。」

M.Schumacher blamed whether it would be in charge of a team order that Coulthard was passed Raikkonen easily in Britain GP.
"I am totally surprised there has been no speculation how easy Kimi was able to overtake David as the situation for me was very clear and very normal."
"David was on a different strategy but he let Kimi by very easily, but then could go at the speed he was able and make things more difficult for all the other drivers than he did for Kimi. If the same would have happened with Ferrari there would have been a big casino, a big story about it, yet it has happened with McLaren but nobody has talked about it. It's a funny business."
"I am not concerned about team orders, it is totally right in these circumstances what they are doing but what I am complaining about is this completely different attitude if we do it than if somebody else does it."
Coulthard may stay with the roll of support
Coulthard is also the prospect of remains with the role of support of Raikkonen next year.
Coulthard talked about Raikkonen and rumors around him.
"Absolutely. I think he can. He just needs consistent podium finishes and Michael (Schumacher) not having those. He had a hard time at Silverstone but still managed to get some reasonable points. We shall see how the coming races play out. In the last couple of races we haven't looked the strongest car but at the Nurburgring the car went very strong. I think it's capable of still winning races and more importantly finishing consistently on the podium. I think private matters for the team by their very nature have to be private, and obviously there is an instruction by the FIA that you can't give a direct team order."
"Punches hurt, stories don't. I have always worked on the basis of what I know...and I know my contractual position. I think Norbert gave a fairly good guideline to everybody. So it's a question now of waiting until the team are in a position to make an announcement. It's not a personal attack on me. There's no question that my weak area this year has been qualifying but my pace in terms of driving the car and race laps has absolutely been on it. I'm not struggling for a lap time so from that point of view, I don't believe I have any worries."
Mercedes Norbert Haug said.
"Maybe we won't surprise you at all. That's definitely the plan but a couple of things need to be sorted out. I personally do not expect surprises for next year. Whatever you read about us offering however many millions to other teams to get their drivers, forget it. It is not correct to say that and nothing like that is going on. We are not the guys to be in breach of contract and stuff like that, that is just not right. We want to be concentrated on our home Grand Prix and that's it basically."
"It really depends on him. We are in discussion with him. If he comes to us and says definitely I want to race, we would not stand in his way."

On the auction for charity by F1 drivers, M.Schumacher was proving to the No.1 poplar. In order to contribute this to a hospital, the cards containing a sign of F1 driver are covered over a network auction in eBay. M.Schumacher topped by 225 pounds. He became twice Montoya (107 pounds) the 2nd place. 3rd was Coulthard (97 pounds). The bottoms were Pizzonia (36 pounds), Heidfeld (34 pounds), Webber (32 pounds).

朝日新聞が土曜の別版第一面にジル･ビルヌーブの特集をした。Ｆ1ファンでない一般の人々に対して、Ｆ1をドラマチックに表現するならば、それは死ぬことなのだろう。だが、そこからF1の魅力がふんだんに語られている。Ｆ1史の本に書いてあることが全国版の新聞に2ページにわたってくわしく掲載された。記事の趣旨はそういうことなのだが、その中から、地元市民が持つミヒャエルに対する気持ちが垣間見えた。

Asahi Shimbun featured Gilles Villeneuve for the first page of
another version on Saturday. It will be dying if F1 is dramatically expressed to
common people who are not F1 fans. But, the charm of F1 is told in plenty from
there. What is written to the book of the history of F1 was carried in detail by
the newspaper of the national version over 2 pages. Although the meaning of a
report was such a thing, there was a glimpse of the feeling over Michael which a

一方、東京中日によると、ＢＡＲはハイドフェルドに声をかけたらしい。ハイドフェルドはヨーロッパＧＰで最後尾から8位入賞しており、評価を高くしている。
MP4-18はお蔵入り？
バルセロナテスト3日目、MP4-18はクルサードが最下位、ブルツがタイムなしに終わった。シェイクダウンから2ヶ月が経過しようとしている。いまだに速さを見せられないことから、イタリアでのデビューすら怪しく、失敗作としてお蔵入りになる可能性もある。MP4-17DはライコネンがMP4-18より1秒以上速いタイムをマークした。

MP4-18 is put on the shelf?
3rd day of the Barcelona test, Coulthard finished the lowest grade with MP 4-18 and Wurz had no time. Two months have passed from the shake down. Since speed cannot yet be shown, even a debut in Italy may be doubtful and may be put on the shelf as a failure work. MP4-17D marked the time with Raikkonen quicker 1 second or more than MP 4-18.
クルサード、自らの非を告白
（英アトラス）クルサードは、1998年ベルギーGPでＭ・シューマッハに追突された事故について、自らの非を認めた。この事故とは、雨の中、1位シューマッハが前方の周回遅れのクルサードを水しぶきで見失い、衝突してしまったことだ。当時シューマッハは激しく怒り、マクラーレンのピットに怒鳴り込んだ。FIAは無線録音やテレメトリデータを確認した上でお咎めなしとしていた。
クルサード「本当のことを話そう。僕が彼をパスさせる場面になった。でも僕はレーシングライン上でひどい水しぶきを上げた。そんなことをしてはならなかったんだ。僕は今なら決してしない。1998年、僕は経験と知識を持っていなかった。誰かに追突されたこともなかった。もし誰かに問い詰められたら、誰でも反応するだろう。'僕は何もしていない'ってね。その時、彼がそこにいたのは知ってたよ。僕はチームから、彼が来たからパスさせるよう言われていたんだ。僕はもっと利口な判断をすべきだった。」
クルサードは、今年のヨーロッパGPで、アロンソの早すぎるブレーキングのためによけてスピンした。いわゆる「ブレーキテスト」の問題を論じるにあたり、５年前の有名な事故のことについて、初めて告白した。あのとき自分のしたことが、今になって自分に振りかかってきたことを悟った。ヨーロッパGPの夜、ホテルに戻って棒を叩き、ベッドで地獄のような思いをしたという。そして、若いドライバーにそのようなことをしてはならないと語った。
ミヒャエル大満足
（英アトラス）Ｍ・シューマッハは、クルサードが1998年スパの事故の非を告白したことを聞いて、大声で笑い、喜んだ。
Ｍ・シューマッハ「うれしいなぁ。あの事故について、彼が最終的に僕と同じ意見を分け合えてね。もうずいぶん昔のことだ。だから今あの事故について言うことは何もないよ。でも、彼が認めたと聞くのはすばらしいことだ。僕らが今、同じ意見を分け合えてうれしいよ。」
＊ クルサードよ。よくぞ話した。汝の罪は許される。これであのときの謎が解けた。ドライバーの告白はレースの歴史において貴重だ。シューマッハも1994年と1997年の最終戦の事故について、「プロストとセナもやったことだ」と語った。セナは1990年の鈴鹿を「わざとプロストにぶつけた」と語った。
Coulthard admitted his blame
(Atlas, Britain) Coulthard accepted his blame about the accident against which M.Schumacher clashed from behind in Belgium GP in 1998. This accident is that 1st Schumacher missed Coulthard a backmarker by the spray, and has collided in rain. Those days, Schumacher got angry violently and shouted at the pit of McLaren. FIA was presupposing that he has no reproof after checking radio recording and telemetry data.
Coulthard "The reality is that I lifted to let him pass me, but I lifted in heavy spray on the racing line. You should never do that. I would never do that now. In 1998, I didn't have the experience and the knowledge, and I had never had someone run into the back of me. And because someone pushes you, you react. So you act as though 'I didn't do that'. The minute I knew he was there, and I was told by the team that he was and was trying to allow him to pass me, I should have made a smarter decision."
Coulthard spun off in Europe GP of this year, to avoid Alonso who was breaking too early. It confessed for the first time about the famous accident of five years ago in discussing the problem of the so-called "brake test." It has realized that what he did at that time becomes now, and shakes at himself. He returned to that night and a hotel, hit the bar, and said that a thought like hell was carried out on the bed. And he said that such a thing could not be carried out to a young driver.

ビルヌーブ「暑いレースになるだろう。ミシュランの本拠地でタイヤ戦争も戦う。僕らがマニクールでどれくらい競争力があるか、少し気になる。でも正直言って、僕はあんまりここでドライビングすることが楽しみじゃないんだ。」
本田博俊・無限社長逮捕がホンダに与える影響
無限の本田博俊社長が10億円を脱税した疑いで逮捕された。博俊氏はホンダの創業者である故・本田宗一郎氏の長男。無限のエンジンはF1で４勝をあげていた（96モナコ、98ベルギー、99フランス、99イタリア）。無限は日本のモータースポーツ界の柱のひとつであり、これは衝撃的な事件である。博俊氏は何も知らなかったとしているが、その言い訳が通用しないほど金額が大きすぎた。
博俊氏は日本のモータースポーツの将来を考え、時には苦言を呈する人でもあった。そういう立場の人をひとり失うことになる。
現在、無限はホンダ本体と資本関係がない。そのことがかえって、博俊氏を資金捻出に走らせたのかもしれない。宗一郎記念館の建設費用が目的とも言われている。皮肉なことだが、このことが宗一郎氏の名誉に泥を塗ることになった。ホンダ本社は急遽、対策室を設置した。無限の再建やホンダのイメージダウンの対応を行う。
ホンダはF1で低迷を続けている。F1の現場とは関係のない事件である。しかし、ホンダ経営陣ににとっては、モータースポーツに大金を投じることに対して、逆風のひとつになりかねない。
