５、１９６７年 マザーグース元年（その１）
マザーグースがちりばめられた歌 I Am The Walrus が書かれた年。1967年の夏は「サマー・オブ・ラブ」と呼ばれ、愛と平和を求める「フラワー・パワー」をスローガンに、若者たちはサイケデリック・カラーのファッションで身を飾った。
ビートルズにおいてサイケデリック・ミュージックがマザーグースとクロスオーバーした年であったいえよう。
④ Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
(1967年3月 rec.) ジョン・レノン 意図的引用
４歳間近のジョンの息子ジュリアン・レノンが、保育園友達のルーシー・オドネルがダイヤモンドを持って空に浮かんでいる絵を描いた。その絵からタイトルを、そして「不思議の国のアリス」から幻想的な雰囲気をもらったという作品。
歌の頭文字がＬＳＤなので、ドラッグが連想され、ＢＢＣはこの歌を放送禁止にしたが、「ドラッグとは無関係」とジョンは否定している。
なお、1974年にエチオピア東部で発見されたヒト科の女性の化石が Lucy と名付けられたのは、発見者のキャンプでこの歌がかかっていたからだそうだ。

Lucy in the sky with diamonds の一節が次のマザーグースを連想させる。ジュリアンが絵を描いているときに、このマザーグースが頭の中に浮かんだのかもしれない。

数字、アルファベット、色を並べた子供向けの数え歌のようだが、Can I take my
friend to bed? というフレーズを入れて、くすっと笑わせる。
