2002年のフォーミュラ･ニッポン王者、ラルフ・ファーマンが2003年にジョーダンでF1デビューを果たします。過去の日本のトップ・フォーミュラ王者と、その中からF1に登れた者を見ていきましょう。19人の王者のうち、7人がF1レギュラーシートをつかみ、6人がスポット参戦しました。現代F1をリードするシューマッハ兄弟も、日本をステップアップの場に選んでいました。 2002 Formula Nippon champion, Ralph Firman will achieve F1 debut in Jordan in 2003. Let's see the past, Japanese top formula champions, and the person that was able to reach F1. Seven of 19 champions have held the F1 regular sheet, and six persons did spot participation. The Schumacher brothers who lead the present age F1 had also chosen Japan as the place of step-up.

日本におけるトップ・フォーミュラのレースは、1964年鈴鹿の第二回日本グランプリで始まりました。選手権シリーズになったのが1973年の全日本F2000からでした。高原敬武と星野一義が王座を争いました。長谷見昌弘とともに3人は1976,77年の富士F1にスポット参戦します。この時代にF1レギュラードライバーは夢でした。

1978年から始まった全日本F2で5度の王座に輝いた中島悟は、1987年にロータスで日本人初のF1レギュラードライバーになりました。

1987年から始まった全日本F3000からは、鈴木亜久里、片山右京がF1に上がりました。1990年代に入り、後にF1で活躍する欧州のドライバーが数多く参戦しています。Ｍ・シューマッハ、サロ、アーバイン、フレンツェン、ハーバートなどです。

Ｍ・シューマッハは1991年、菅生の一戦のみ出場し、2位でした。その後、弟に日本での修行を薦めました。「日本ではタイヤの使い方を学べる。それはF1で必ず役に立つ。」

1996年から始まったフォーミュラ･ニッポンでは、Ｒ・シューマッハ、デ・ラ・ロサに続いて、ファーマンがF1入りを果たしました。なお、2000年王者の高木虎之介はF1からの出戻りです。

ちなみに、ヨーロッパの国際F3000王者からは1996年以降、7人中4人がF1に上がりました。フォーミュラ・ニッポンと同じ割合です。両シリーズで最も著名なドライバーといえば、1996年フォーミュラニッポン王者のＲ・シューマッハと、1998年国際F3000王者のモントーヤです。この二人が奇しくもウィリアムズのチームメイトというのは何かの縁でしょうか。		 In Japan, the race by the top formula started in second Japan Grand Prix of Suzuka in 1964. It was to have become championship series from all Japan F2000 in 1973. Noritake Takahara and Kazuyoshi Hoshino fought for the throne. With Masahiro Hasemi, three persons do spot participation in Fuji F1 for 1976-77. The F1 regular driver was a dream at this time.

Satoru Nakajima which shone with the throne of 5 times in all Japan F2 that started in 1978 became the first F1 regular driver as Japanese with the Lotus in 1987.

Aguri Suzuki and Ukyo Katayama went up to F1 from all Japan F3000 that started in 1987. It entered in the 1990s and many drivers of Europe which run an active part in F1 behind are participating in Japan. They are M.Schumacher, Salo, Irvine, Frentzen, Herbert, etc.

M.Schumacher had participated in 1991 only Sugao's race, the result was the 2nd place. Then, he had recommended to the younger brother to practice in Japan. "How to use a tyre can be studied in Japan. It is surely helpful by F1. "

In Formula Nippon which started from 1996, R.Schumacher, Pedoro de la Rosa and Ralph Firman rised to F1. In addition, Toranosuke Takagi, 2000 champion, is the reinstatement from F1.

Incidentally, four persons went up from international F3000 champion of Europe to F1 among seven persons in 1996 and afterwards. It is the same rate as Formula Nippon. If it is called the driver most famous for both series, they are a 1996 Formula Nippon champion's R.Schumacher, and 1998 International F3000 champion's Montoya. Are Williams's teammates some edges miraculously in these two persons?
