• ＩＥＣ規格で使用する用語の定義（英、仏、（露））と、用語そのものの多国語表記、 多国語索引を分野別に分冊とした IEC 60050シリーズ(IEV)規格 として発行されている。
• 最近発行の Part(分野) では「用語の日本語表記」があるものも多い(下記一覧参照)。
• ＣＤ−ＲＯＭ版も発行されている。
• IEC Web Store(http://webstore.iec.ch/)でオンラインオーダできる。
  【旧版】(直前版でなくても良い)を所有し、前回購入時の送り状(IEC発行のInvoice)を持っていると、割引価格でアップグレードできる。
• また、IEV Online databaseで、 英、仏、独、スペイン語の用語比較 など、部分的な検索サービス(無償)が提供されている。

• 当初、仏、英、露 三ヶ国語の用語、定義を併記したマルチ言語辞書として制定されてきたが、 新規Partの制定、追補、改正を通じて、スペイン、独、日、中、伊、アラビア語等による各国語の用語(のみ)表記が追加されてきている。
• 近年、露語の地位が相対的に低下し、一部、記載されていない Part もある一方、スペイン語、独語の比重が増している印象を受けた。

• 　* : 現時点、日本語による用語の掲載は、発行時期 と 担当する日本側国内委員会の対応により事なり、限定されたものになっている。
  例えば、 Part 161 の場合、用語と定義の英語表記 は、本体(1990)、Am1(1997)、Am2(1998) すべてに掲載されているが、 用語(定義は無い)の日本語表記 は、旧い本体(1990)には無く、 比較的新しい追補(Am1,Am2) のみに掲載されている。
