THEME : "How to combine new materials and technologies with the traditional art (esthetics)"

Make a hybrid of Japanese traditional materials and virtual images

PARTICIPANTS : about 30 people of students of architecture, young architects, and others…

 

 

MATERIALS : take-higo(thin bamboo bar),washi(traditional Japanese paper),kite string,glue,hot water / provided by the organaizer

            laptop computer / bring your own

 

 

1st step: Imagine and draw the curved surface like geography on which virtual images would be projected.

          And think about what it will be use as at last.

          For example, luminaire, ornament, wall, ceiling or architecture itself. 

 

2nd step: Find the images that will be projected in internet.

          Any kind of photographs or video will be OK only if you think it can represent esthetics of nature.

 

3rd step: Make a structure with take-higo and kite strings for the curved surface.

          Use the resilience of take-higo and tension of strings.

          The shape might be changed from your first idea but it is OK.

          Unexpected shape should be accepted.

 

4th step: Put washi on the take-higo with glue.

          If you want to make 3D curved surface, tear WASHI into small pieces and patchwork.

 

5th step: Presentation.

          Project images on the curved surface you made from your laptop.

          Explain what it will be used as.
