マクラーレン遅かりし１−２
アロンソ３位で最年少王座決める
PPアロンソが好スタートを切ったが、後方でピッツォニアがウェバー、クルサードと絡んでクラッシュし、セーフティカー。再スタートのバックストレートでモントーヤがアロンソをオーバーテイク。１回目のストップでアロンソはライコネンにも抜かれて３位。しかしアロンソはチャンピオン条件の３位を守りきった。アロンソは左リアタイヤに問題があり、決して楽なレースではなかった。24歳58日は史上最年少、スペイン人として初の王者。 ルノーのドライバーズタイトルも初。レースは２年連続でモントーヤが勝利、２位ライコネン。マクラーレンは今年初めて１−２を達成したチームとなったが、ドライバーズ選手権としては遅かった。コンストラクターズはマクラーレンがルノーを逆転して2点差。佐藤は１ストップで10位完走し、鈴鹿につなげた。モンテイロの連続完走はストップ。

中本「僕はサラリーマンなんで今回のことはHRDという会社に聞いてくれ。でも僕はサラリーマンである以前に日本人なんだ。」
小倉「日本では琢磨の感情的なコメントが必要以上に伝わってしまった（佐藤がホンダを離れると言ったこと）。」
川合「ホンダが琢磨を見捨てることはない。それはBARの第三ドライバーという意味ではなく。」
 
※佐藤が結果を残していないこと、だから解雇もやむなしという意見が多い。かつて日本のファンは誰でも佐藤に期待していたときがあっただろう。それを彼が今のF1のレベルではないと見捨てるのは、可愛さ余って憎さ百倍みたいな感もある。落ち目の者を叩いたり、上昇気流の者を賞賛するのは簡単なことだ。アロンソやライコネンのレベルでないと見るに値しないというなら、日本でF1が放送されなくなった時、欧州にでも引っ越して見ればよい。日本でF1が放送されているのは、中嶋(87-91)、亜久里(88-95)、右京(92-97)、虎之介(98-99)、琢磨(02-)と来た日本人ドライバーの系譜と無縁ではない。純粋な評価とは別に、そのことも考えるべきだろう。 また、佐藤は日本人の先人を上回る記録を残した。欧州各国には100年間にすぐれたドライバーが多数輩出した歴史がある。ドイツ（カラチオラ）、イタリア（ヌボラーリ）、イギリス（クラーク）、その中に異邦人が入っていく苦労ははかり知れない。(sio)
