佐藤琢磨「4コーナーに入ってバックミラーの死角になってるところからトゥルーリが接触してきた。」
「（3位を）守ろうとは思わなかった。バリチェロはブレーキを踏むのが早過ぎたし、全然バックミラーを見てない。（次の周まで待つ考えは）なかった。翌周はタイヤのグリップが落ちてしまうから。」
「ホンダがいま原因を見ているので、分かり次第解決したい。2度とこういうことが起きないように頑張りたい。」
パスカル・ヴァスロン（ミシュラン）「バリチェロがイン側に少しスペースを空けるだけで十分だったのに。琢磨があそこでアタックしたのは当然だよ。琢磨のようにアタックできるドライバーはレースを楽しくしてくれる。彼が前を走るようになって以来、ずっと盛り上がってると思わないかい。」
※スペインでは3番手からズルズルと後退した。そのときと比べれば大きな進歩があった。ましてや、開幕3戦までの入賞圏内に入れるかどうかに比べれば、飛躍的な進歩だ。以前の、絶対的速さがないという批判は見られなくなった。むろん琢磨への突込みどころはまだまだたくさんあるが、重要なことは琢磨が1戦ごとにどれだけ進歩しているかだ。
結果を残すことが重要ということも真実。多くの批判を改善すべきことも事実。しかし、それによって琢磨らしさ、アグレッシブさが失われてはほしくない。F1には、勝ちたいという思いが伝わってくるドライバーが必要。今は最初からフェラーリ＆シューマッハにかなわないと思われるチームやドライバーばかり。ルノーにしても、限られたサーキットで作戦を立ててやっとだろう。いかなるサーキットでも堂々と真正面から打倒フェラーリをめざしていると思えるのはBARホンダの佐藤琢磨だけといったら言い過ぎか。（sio）

森脇基恭「うん、いいレース。ベストレースですよね。・・・もうしっかりと2位をずっとレース中走ってたわけですからね。」

西岡孝洋「もちろん3位をキープするという考え方もあるわけじゃないですか。ただ、レーサーとして前を取りたいと。そしてあそこでかわして行こうという。」
森脇「3位をキープするという考え方はないと思います。というのは、速さとしては佐藤の方があったわけですから。自分が前のスティント、その前のスティントでもって速く走れなかったがために、あのピットアウトした時に3位なんですね。ですからあれはチームの失敗であり、本人としての失敗なんですから、何としても取り戻そうという気は、あって当然だと思いますね。ですからあそこは攻めて当然ですよ。」
川井「それも、フレッシュタイヤのまだ1周目でドロップオフに入っていない時なんで、あそこしかないんですよ。」

川井「大丈夫です、まだあとあります。」
今宮純「今日は最初のフロントローだったんでハラハラドキドキだったけど・・・これからは、カナダ、アメリカ・・・こういうハラハラドキドキもっと続くんじゃないかと思うからね。」
川井「カナダなんてパワーサーキットですしね。全然。」
今宮「ホンダもバージョンアップやってくる。まだまだ、本当に、これがプロローグだと思いますけどね。」
ポイントは2つ。彼にとって表彰台はより良かった。結果として大選手になれるという自信を与える。自信はF1にとってそれほど大きなことだ。個人的には、彼は表彰台に上がるべきだった。しかし、エキサイティングなレースになった。私の髪はちょっと逆立ったよ。
率直に言って、今年、タクさんがだんだんと好きになってきた。彼がリタイヤして悲しくないかい。あまりに楽観的すぎる試みだったかどうか、わからない。テレビを見ている上では、タクマはルーベンスをオーバーテイクすることは可能なコーナーだった。結果は望むものではなかったが、少なくとも、彼はベストを尽くした。（カナダ）
サトーはすばらしいレースをした。2周を除いてだけどね。1周目、彼はトゥルーリを表彰台から落とした。それから、RBを抜く周があまりに楽観的すぎた。
彼は、まさに私が彼を好きな理由を見せてくれた。彼は安全に走れば3位になれた。でも、そうしなかった。彼は上を狙った。彼がなんていうドライバーかを示した。楽観的過ぎる動きだったと思う。私はカミカゼとは呼ばない。バーレーンでDCにしたことをぴったり同じだ。私は彼がもっと好きになった。（香港）

Sato you break my heart! (1) (5/30)
それはすばらしい走りだった。なぜ君はあまりにアグレッシブな動きをしなければならなかったんだ??今日はとてもがっかりした。3位で十分だった。タクマはミシュラン勢で唯一フェラーリのペースについていけた。彼がこのことから学び、すべてのコーナーで抜こうとせず、もう少し落ち着くよう望む。少なくとも、ITVのクルーは彼を「ドライバーオブザレース」とした。それが慰めだ。
もし彼がトライしなければ、彼のエンジンも残り13周でブローしなかった、ああ。（アメリカ）
うん、あれにはとてもがっかりした。とても悪く突然だった。ピットアウト直後で気づいた点は、サトーは彼の最速ラップをマークできるときだった。たぶん彼が思ったことは、後でよりも、すぐに抜こうとした方が良いということ。ミシュランの性能からすればね。その点まで、彼はすばらしいことをした。
彼がフェラーリをオーバーテイクしようというルーキーのミスにはがっかりした。さらに、あんな動きをするのは2度だ。最初はJTで、サトーのカミカゼ・ドライブの犠牲者だった。1コーナー後のところで彼の後ろから来て所業に会った。しかし彼が学ぶことは少なかった。それゆえ2度目なのだ。彼のリタイヤは事故の直接の結果だ。ホンダエンジンはマクラーレンのように、ピットに長い時間いすぎるとしばし起こる。（スウェーデン）

It was only 2 points, I thought a podium would have done him much better, cause that will give him more confidence that he can hang with the big boys in term of results. Confidence is such a big thing in Formula 1, I personally thought he should have went for the podium. But I guess it did make for an exciting race, though I'm a few strain of Hair short right now.
Frankly speaking, I get to like Taku-san more and more in this year. Sad to see him out of the race, isn't it? I don't know whether that was an overly optimistic attempt or so, from the angle I saw it on *a television*, that Takuma did try to overtake Rubens at a possible corner. The outcome wasn't the one I would like to see, but at least, he had tried his best. (Canada)
Sato did a great race except for 2 laps: L1 where he costed Trulli of a possible podium, and the lap where he tried that too optimistic pass on RB.
He just showed exactly the reason why I like him! He would've just "play safe" and finished 3rd,but no, he just "go for it". It just showed you what type of driver he's! I think it was a over optimistic move but I wouldn't call it a "kamikaze" move, it was identical to what he'd to DC at Bahrain. I like him even more!!!
As much as I love Sato, and appreciated his "guts and glory" type racing. (USA)
I hope he learns from what happened today and makes the move stick next time.
Sato is too reckless hope he don't make a big accident .
I'm surprised so many think that was a good overtaking attempt. He was too far back and it was never going to work without taking out Rubens with him. That was a dive bomb plain and simple. (USA)
For me he is the man of the race. Great pace, outqualified and outraced Button. But it wouldn't be Takuma Kamikadze Sato not to want more than he could get. And I like his attitude, for me as a spectator it is better to watch driver like him than ever-calculating machine like say....err...you know.
Looking at Jock Clears side of the garage, he and his group of engineers and mechanics have had serious mechanical issues with the car in 12 of the last 22 races. Compare to Button's side of the garage which has had mechanical issues in only 4 out of the last 22 races....
Totally unessesary and stupid move by Sato. Just when I warm up to the guy he always manages to do something stupid.

That was such a fabulous drive? why did you have to make that over optimistic move?? I'm so disappointed today, I thought 3rd would have been good enough! Takuma was the only Michelin runners who was on the Ferrari pace. I hope he learns from this and tries to cruise a bit more than try to make a pass at every corner. Well, at least he made the ITV crew give him 'Driver of the Race' what a consolation that is.
If he didn't try it, his engine was going to blow with 13 laps to go... oh wai... (USA)
Yes, a big disappointment seeing it go so badly so suddenly. One thing I noticed was immediately after exiting of the pits, is when Sato was able to turn his quickest laps. Maybe his thinking was that it was better to try a pass sooner rather than later, given Michelin's performance profile. Up to that point, he was doing great.
I am actually disappointed by him with that rookie mistake he made trying to overtake the Ferrari, further more it was the second time he made that move in the race first time it was JT who was the victim of Satos Kamikaze dive only a corner later karma came back at him... but it sure was too little to learn anything from it for him, hence the second move.
I think his DNF was also an (in) direct result of the incident as the Honda engine like McLarens don't like being the pits too long or too often. Shame really as I was cheering Him to take a podium no matter which kind/place. There is always a next race to hope...... (Sweden)

His performance was amazing all race until he got a bit impatient and dived down the inside of Rubens. Still, roll on Canada! He's certainly on the pace now. Goooooo Takuuuuuuuuu! (UK)
Yeah Ferrari seemed to lap slow out of the pits and the Bridgestone's appeared to take a few laps to get to speed so maybe he thought he better pull it off before Rubens got away. (Australia)
He's a schmuck. Just hope he doesn't hurt anyone when he does the "big one"...
Great drive up until that point. I wonder what will the FIA do since he never served his penalty though.....Will he get some kind of penalty for the next race? (UAE)

1周目について
バトン「タクマは2位にいて、彼らはターン4に入っていった。ヤルノか、ルノーの一人かが彼のインに入った。彼らは両方ともふくらんで、キミが2位に上がれたんだ。」
トゥルーリ「僕は良いスタートができたけど、レースは第一コーナーでほとんど終わった。僕がドアを開かなければ、サトーは僕を押し出していただろうね。僕は3位で彼とミヒャエルの後ろにいた。2つのコーナーの後、ターン4で彼はミスして僕は内側のラインをとった。でも彼はドアを閉じた。彼の右前輪が僕の左前輪を打った。僕はあやうくコントロールを失うところだった。その混乱で、ピットレーン速度制限ボタンを押してしまった。それでいくつか順位を失ったんだ。」
Barrichello "I think it was a bit too amateur from Sato to do that because he wasn't in a position to actually try and overtake. He came completely sideways, I saw the nose coming and I just took avoiding action and I was lucky that nothing else broke on my car. He could have eventually overtaken me because he was fast enough but he didn't need to be that lap. He wasn't in contention on that lap."
Button "Takuma, obviously, drove a great race up until the moment where he lost his front wing."
M.Schumacher "Takuma was very quick but didn't finish the race and he had this collision with Rubens and we won't find out what could have been if he had finished. "
Sato "I had to laugh when I heard him say that. What he said was totally untrue. He never looked at the replay. I was totally in control. He just didn't see it. I had fresh tyres, I had a lot of grip and the car was so nice. He didn't see in his mirrors. It was just an unlucky situation. In this business you have to be (ambitious)."
David Richards "The sport needs heroes. It needs people who don't win races by calculating results of the race on a computer the day before. It needs people who actually take up every opportunity and challenge to the last lap. I'd rather be seen as a fighting team and challenging team rather than a team that sat down and calculated everything beforehand and runs out computer programmes of how we're going to perform."
About 1st lap
Button "Takuma was in second position and then they got into turn four and I think Jarno - or one of the Renaults - was down the inside of him and he turned in and they both ended up going wide and Kimi was able to get into second place."
Trulli "I made a good start but the race was nearly over at the first corner - if I hadn't opened the door, Sato would have taken me out. I was third behind him and Michael when, two corners later, he made a mistake so I took the inside line through turn 4 but he closed the door. His right front wheel hit my front left and I nearly lost the car - in the confusion, I pressed the pit-lane speed limiter button and that cost me a number of positions."

45周目、佐藤がピットアウトでバリチェロにわずかに先行される。
46周目、佐藤が1コーナーでバリチェロのインを突くがフロントウィングを破損してピットイン。
48周目、佐藤が白煙を上げリタイヤ。
オーバーテイクの失敗、それによるピットインでエンジンがオーバーヒート、それは反省することか？いや、今回の佐藤の攻めの気持ちは最高だった。何ら悔いることはない。勝つためにレースしている。
バリチェロと佐藤のタイム争い白熱 (5/30)
26周目、佐藤が2回目のピットイン。28周目Ｍ・シューマッハ。
バリチェロと佐藤のラップタイム争いが白熱化。
1位Ｍ・シューマッハ、2位バリチェロ、3位佐藤。
佐藤11周目に日本人初1位走行 (5/30)
スタートで佐藤がホイールスピン。トゥルーリに2位を奪われる。佐藤はライコネンと並ぶが1コーナーのレイトブレーキングで勝つ。1コーナーでトゥルーリから2位を奪い返す。だが何かあり、ライコネン、アロンソに先行される。1位Ｍ・シューマッハは1周で3秒速い。2位ライコネン、3位アロンソ、4位佐藤。
モントーヤとラルフが1コーナーで同士討ち。
8周目、Ｍ・シューマッハがピットイン。ライコネンはピットアウト後に白煙。佐藤は11周目に日本人初のラップリーダーを公式に記録。12周目。ルノー勢はレースで苦戦。
15周目、2ストップのバリチェロが入り、各車の1回目ピットストップが終わる。1位Ｍ・シューマッハ、2位佐藤、3位バリチェロ。
M.Schumacher won 6th this year. 2nd Barrichello, 3rd Button, 4th Trulli, 5th Alonso, 6th Fisichella, 7th Webber, 8th Montoya.
Sato contacted and smoked (May 30)
45th lap Sato pit out and pleceded by Barrichello.
46th lap Sato poked the inside of Barrichello at 1st corner. He lost the front wing and pit in.
48th lap Sato smoked and retired.
Missing of overtaking, overheat by pit, Were these regrets? No! The feeling of this Sato's attack was the highest. It does not repent at all.

Sato wheel-spun at the start. Trulli passed him and 2nd. Sato ranked with Raikkonen, but won by late braking at the 1st corner. Sato took 2nd from Trulli at 1st corner. But something occurred and preceded by Raikkonen and Alonso. M.Schumacher was fast by 3 seconds per lap. 2nd Raikkonen, 3rd Alonso, 4th Sato.
Montoya and Ralf were collided with.
8th lap, M.Schumacher pit in. Raikkonen smoked after pit. Sato recorded lap leader at 11th lap officially. He pit at 12nd lap. Renault struggled.
15th lap, Barrichello who took 2nd stop strategy pit. Each cars finished 1st stop. 1st M.Schumacher, 2nd Sato, 3rd Barrichello.

I've always been pretty optimistic about this kid. He smoked everyone in British F3. He was G. Villeneuve like in his first season at Jordan-Honda. I'm not jumping on the Sato bandwagon yet but he does look strong this weekend. He's definitely entertaining and seems to be one of the toughest racers on the grid but I'm still not convinced he has the consistency to be a top driver. (USA)

Great job by Taku. He's really starting to show his speed now. Button was a little disappointing, but he only lost out to Taku by 2 tenths so it's not exactly a disaster for the BAR team. (UK)
