モントーヤ最終戦で優勝  (10/24)
雨上がりのスタート。PPバリチェロはライコネンに抜かれる。バトンは白煙で止まる。Ｍ・シューマッハはスピン。路面が乾いてきて各車ウェットからドライに交換している間、ドライでスタートしたアロンソがトップに立つ。だがルノーのペースは遅く、中盤にダウン。モントーヤがピットアウト後にライコネンを抜いてトップに立つ。佐藤は１コーナーでミスしてバリチェロに抜かれる。終盤、モントーヤとライコネンが1位争い、アロンソ、佐藤、ラルフ、ミヒャエルの4位争い。佐藤はラルフに抜かれて6位。モントーヤは逃げ切って1年ぶり4勝目。ウィリアムズ未勝利を脱す。バリチェロは地元優勝成らず、表彰台でへとへとになった。

予選 (10/23)
バリチェロが地元で2年連続PP。バリチェロはセクター１・２でトップタイムが効いた。ウィリアムズはセクター３で1-2だったが、セクター１の遅れが響いた。マクラーレンはフリー走行に比べて2人の差が開きすぎたので戦略が違うか。BARは佐藤がセクター１、バトンがセクター３でタイムロスしたが、それがなくても３列目が妥当なところ。ルノーはBARより0.5秒遅い。全体的に接戦で、バトルの多いレースになりそうだ。
