マクラーレンがフェラーリのいないところでトップにいます。しかし、旧車MP4/17の伸びは止まりました。
ウィリアムズは旧車FW24でタイムアップしているものの、トヨタやザウバーの新車に迫られています。新車は1月末に登場の予定ですが、気になることがあります。ラルフが医師の薦めによる休息と称して、走らなくなってしまったのです。噂ではラルフが新車開発の主導権をモントーヤに奪われたと言われています。
トヨタの新車TF103は初日(1/14)から旧車より速く、日を追って改善しています。なかなかいい傾向です。ダ・マッタは旧車ながらタイムを縮め、F1に慣れてきていることを示します。
BARも旧車より速くなっているのですが、トヨタやザウバーより1秒遅いのが現実です。佐藤の初日はデビッドソンのタイムにわずかに及びません。
ルノーは旧車で着実にタイムアップしています。ルノーはシーズン中のテストをしないことに決めたので、この冬が勝負です。
ジョーダンとミナルディはまだ走っていません。資金調達が先決のようです。
