| The good battle in 2003 is taken
up. First of all, it is fighting of Raikkonen, and M.Schumacher who fight
for 38th lap of opening race Australia GP. |

It passes over a race middle
point, the leader Montoya is pit in nearness. Substantial winning argument
is 2nd place Raikkonen and 3rd place Michael Schumacher.
Schumacher was not able to come in front of Raikkonen by pit strategy. In
order to win, Schumacher must overtake Raikkonen on a course.
With the main straight of the 38th lap, Schumacher sticks behind
Raikkonen. He plans to pass by the slipstream.
Ferrari's top speed is 318.4km, and Mclaren Mercedes's top speed is
316.4km/h, they are almost equal.

レース中間点を過ぎ、1位モントーヤはピットイン間近。実質的な優勝争いは2位キミ・ライコネンと3位ミヒャエル・シューマッハで繰り広げられた。
シューマッハはピット戦略でライコネンの前に出ることが出来なかった。優勝するためには、コース上でライコネンを追い越すしかない。
38周目のメインストレートで、シューマッハはライコネンの背後につく。スリップストリームでオーバーテイクするつもりだ。
この日、フェラーリの最高速度は318.4km/h、マクラーレン・メルセデスは316.4km/hでほとんど互角だった。 |

Although it was regarded as in a predicament,
Raikkonen was considered calmly. "In order to protect the inside of
turn 1, the right-hand corner, I must not make Schumacher right
side." Raikkonen was not flurried even if king Schumacher came.

However, at the right corner of turn 1,
Schumacher was an outside and Raikkonen was inside . The outside is
disadvantageous even if it carries out a car half lead. And Raikkonen was
never yielded to the king. Raikkonen not only protects the line of
oneself, but it brings it near outside greatly. Schumacher loses a place
to go to. |

Schumacher was the form like pushed out and
has come out of a course. This is a compound corner and it turns on the
left immediately to the next. It is because it will be again overtaken if
the line is halfway given to the rival. Raikkonen protected the 1st place.
Raikkonen rebounded Schumacher's attack. |
| シューマッハは押し出されるような形でコースをはずれてしまう。ここは複合コーナーで、すぐ次に左に曲がる。中途半端に相手にラインを与えていては、抜き返されてしまうからだ。これでライコネンが１位を守った。ライコネンがシューマッハの攻めをはね返したのだ。 |

They were not able to win with a penalty of
Raikkonen and Schumacher's barge board breakage. But, the battle of the
38th lap was the highlight of this race. To the strongest king who rides
on the fastest machine, Raikkonen did not flinch from but having fought
calmly shone particularly. Raikkonen showed the suitable run as being
called the next champion candidate with Montoya.

レースはこの後、ライコネンにペナルティ、シューマッハはバージボード破損により、両者とも勝つことが出来なかった。だが、38周目のバトルがこのレース最大の見せ場だった。最速マシンに乗る最強の王者に対し、ライコネンがひるまず、冷静に戦ったことがひときわ光った。ライコネンは、モントーヤとともに次のチャンピオン候補と呼ばれるのにふさわしい走りを見せた。
