フェラーリとシューマッハは勝ち、折り返し点でトップに立った。万々歳というところだが、とても不安を感じたに違いない。もはや、シャシーで勝てる昨年のような状況ではない。ミシュランタイヤがレースごとに進化してきており、後半戦は苦しい戦いを強いられそうだ。そして、そんなときこそ、ドライバーの能力が真価を発揮する。カナダGPはその典型的なレースだった。 | Ferrari and Schumacher won and stood on the

昨年まで1ストップが主流だったカナダGPも、今年は2ストップが主流に変わった。今回、1ストップにしたのは、ピットスタートしたライコネンとファーマンの二人だけだった。バリチェロは2周目にアロンソと接触してフロントウィングを交換したが、そこで燃料を積み、残り1ストップに作戦を変更した。カナダはセーフティカーが出やすいGPだったが、今回は出動しなかった。各チームはセーフティカーを心配するより、短いスティントを軽い燃料で速く走ることを重視した。ライコネンは33周も走ってリアタイヤがバーストした。タイヤ側も短いスティントを前提に柔らかく作ってきている。 |

今回のレースはウィリアムズが勝てるはずだった。ひとえにM・シューマッハというドライバーの力に敗れたと言えよう。フェラーリはバリチェロがまた手負いになってしまった。昨年のバリチェロは序盤にトラブルがあって後方に下がっても、必ず巻き返して2位まで上がれた。今年はそんな力がF2003-GAにはない。というよりも、今はタイヤが占める比重が大きくなっている。クソ車と言われたFW25が短期間に巻き返せたのも、タイヤのおかげだ。 モントーヤのスピンでミヒャエルは1対1勝負に持ち込めた M・シューマッハが労せずして2位に上がれたのは、2周目にモントーヤが最終シケインでスピンしたためだ。もしモントーヤがミスしなかったら、M・シューマッハの前に立ちふさがり、ピット戦略でR・シューマッハを逆転することはできなかっただろう。モントーヤはモナコですばらしい安定感があったが、カナダでは集中力を欠いた。 |
