I'd like to thank you so much for producing Journey's LIVE IN HOUSTON 1981 ESCAPE TOUR DVD!
Great sound and awesome performance from the band!
Anything else planned for Journey and/or Steve Perry? Once again
thanks and wish you a great 2006!
I'm glad you enjoy the Houston DVD.
Right now Steve Perry and I are repackaging (with original packaging and
artwork) and bringing up the masters to the state of the art CD standards
for the entire Journey catalog and Steve's solo records.
They should be released in the Summer and Fall of 2006.

Hi John, is there any of Journey's captured tours on any film?
Any chance that some of it will come out on DVD?
I think "do you recallh is classic Steve Perry vocals and Neil Schon lead break.
I'm not aware of any Captured footage.

Regarding the Journey Houston DVD:
Steve Perry and I haven't even started working on it yet, so there will
not be any release of this DVD until at least 2005.
(*Please note that is the only information available regarding this DVD
at this time.)

Hi John! Keep up the great work you're doing for classic rock music!
I wonder if you will work on a Journey Raised On Radio tour DVD with Steve Perry?
I know for sure that lots of Journey fans (including myself) would love to see a complete Raised On Radio show on DVD!!! Thanks a lot in advance, Greetings from Sweden.
There is a Raised on Radio show that was recorded and shot on video or
film so eventually I would like to work on a DVD.

Hi John, I'm the head of the HOF Committee for Journey.
The information that was sent and posted to your site is slightly untrue
as the committee does accept petitions and did in the case of Bob Seger
recently (who only had 5,000 signatures).
If you would please post the url to the petition, we are pushing for more
signatures (close to 11,000 now) that would be wonderful.
The url is http://www.petitiononline.com/jrnyhof1/petition.html Thank you!
You recently said that you are going to work with Steve Perry on the Houston
DVD.
Is it going to be the full 90 min concert, or the MTV version, which is
70 min long?
Good question, but I don't know, because when we start working on it I
will have to see how much audio and video material there is and what condition
it is in.
I would obviously like a 90 minute version because that was the true length
of the Journey show, but we'll have to see what is usable
I noticed that on the DVD of Journey's Greatest Hits DVD that there is
a one (1) on the front. Does this mean that there is another
greatest hits DVD in the works or is this part of a series?
It's part of a series of something, but I honestly don't know what of.

Wonder if you might provide us Journey fans with an update on the Houston
1981 Escape Show DVD update, and any other Journey projects you are working
on.
Thanks for your time and keep up the great website!
Steve Perry has asked me to work on the concert with him this Summer, for
release at Christmas.
The concert audio will be mixed in 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound.
We will look for additional footage to add to the original concert video
edit.

This e-mail is being sent not really as a comment or a question, but as
an F.Y.I.
A while back in an interview you were asked about Journey being inducted
into the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame.
And you answered something to the effect that "Journey fans have really
dropped the ball on this one ... it is really up to them" And you
were right.
I hate when that happens.
Well the Moon must have entered the right part of the night sky because
all of a sudden there is a lot of interest.
An on-line Petition, yesterday, passed the 10,000 sig mark.
It had been sitting, patiently, and all of a sudden in 2 days 500 sigs.
At BackTalk (www.journeymusic.com) there is now an official HOF committee.
And a letter writing campaign is being initiated.
Since the R'NR HOF Foundation only recognizes letters, everyone is pushing
to get letters written and mailed.
Some people have a difficult time getting started.
Just in case there are people who just need an example or a slight bit
of encouragement, I have made my letter to the HOF available (including
RIAA stats) and added a template for a very simple letter that anyone may
use.
This is available at http://steveperry-thejourneybeyond.com/RNR-HOF/index.html
This information and link has been posted on several Journey/Perry boards.
I really hope we can all pull together on this.
If you are not one of the voting experts affiliated with the process, I
hope we can count on your letter. As always, a pleasure.
I'm sorry I can't send a letter myself because I am a voting member, but
I will post this on my website to maybe get the word out even further.
Journey should definitely be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Is there any way to get Journey's music without the vocals?
I love the driving beat and of course the vocals, but I have a figure skater
and they cannot have vocals on their music.
The midi files just don't have the same drive and intensity to them that
the original music does.
I have looked over all of the Journey sites and cannot find an answer to
my question.
You are my last hope!
I know of some bands that remixed their music without vocals for karaoke
purposes.
The only suggestion I might have would be to contact a local karaoke bar
and see if you can make some kind of deal, if they had Journey songs
Hello JDK..
Thanks for your work on keeping Classic Rock alive..
My questions this morning are----Any release date yet on the Journey DVD
Houston concert?
And Thank you for the one responsible for the release of Jack Blades CD here in the states for April 6!
There isn't a release date yet for the Houston DVD.
I will let the fans know as soon as I know one.
Glad you're looking forward to hearing the new Jack Blades album - it's
great.

I have spoken with the Journey Fan Club and they have informed me that you
and Steve Perry are doing another DVD of video hits.
I would like to request you include the "Chain Reaction" video.
That is one of my favorites and I can't find it anywhere.
I have a very old and bad copy I recorded back in the 80's.
There is a video for Chain Reaction, which I really like, and I'm hoping
to put it on the next DVD.
Even if it's a live concert DVD, Steve still thinks it should be included
at the end as a bonus clip.
I thought I would help you with a clarification someone asked.
The song on the discography of Journey of "Trial by Fire" that's
listed after Baby, I'm leaving you is that says bonus track after it is
actually a bonus track on the Japanese version of "Trial BY Fire"
that's not on the American one and that's where that song comes from called
I can see it in your eyes and actually its on the Japanese cd as the 10th
or 11 song.
One question I do have is are you going to do the entire Raised on Radio
concert on DVD after the Houston one and is going to be the Mountain View
or the Georgia show?
I don't know the answer to this,
but the show I've seen is the Mountain View show and hopefully it will
be after the Houston DVD. There may be a Georgia concert, but I'm not aware
of it.

First of all, thank you for allowing rock and roll fans a place to have
questions answered.
I sent a letter a while back and received a very nice response from Miss
Storm.
I thought Ifd send some questions, because Ifd really like to hear your comments on them.
I respect your contributions to rock and roll and your recent comments
about the rock and roll press and the rock and roll ghall of fameh.
There are many artists who are overlooked, many of whom you mentioned in
a response to a fanfs letter.I just have a few questions: (Thanks in advance for the chance
to ask them of you.)
1. New Journey and new Styx | (Not a Steve Perry question.)|
I love Steve Perryfs voice and his presence in Journey, but I also like the Journey live DVD
with Steve Augeri.
He is a really good singer and can do the classic stuff.
(Even though I would love to see Steve Perry back, I can accept Journey
with Augeri | at least based on what Ifve heard so far. Although Perry is, again, a voice too great not to be
heard.)
I picked up the Journey Greatest Hits DVD and love it.
Thanks for letting us hear the classic Journey lineup again.
What a voice! (Plus his songwriting with J. Cain is wonderful.)
2. However, from what Ifve heard so far, Styx without Dennis Deyoung is not Styx. It seems like
the Tommy Shaw Band doing covers of Styx hits. (and not the biggest hits.
They seem to be just doing Tommy Shaw and JY songs with one or two DeYoung
songs thrown in to try to throw a bone to Styx fans, even though those
songs are nowhere near capturing the Styx sound.) Styx without DeYoung
just doesnft seem to work for me. Any chance of getting DDY back to return to the
Styx we know and love?
1. Thanks for your comments - all true.
2. I don't know.

John, thank you for your work on the Journey DVD -- a very generous helping
of some wonderful music and images.
I'm curious whether the audio from the Houston performances is different
from video to video.
For example, "Don't Stop Believin'" has no audible crowd noise
or cheering in it that I can hear, but you do hear the crowd in the "Open
Arms" video.
Were these always like that, even when the videos were originally shown
in the 80s, or is this something you did specially for the DVD?
The audio from the Houston performance is different from video to video.
This is a great question and a very complex question.
A few of the live clips are not from the Houston show and therefore have
different live and/or studio audio in them.
I'm working without seeing the DVD in front of me, so forgive me if I'm
a little fuzzy about the exact songs, but the Houston shows clips feature
the audio from Journey's Greatest Hits Live, mixed by Kevin Shirley as
an audio CD and not as a DVD-video mix.
The future release of the Houston shows will be remixed in 5.1 audio by
Steve Perry, me and a yet-to-be-determined expert 5.1 mixer.
The whole Journey show will be mixed as an entire live concert, matched
to the edited film.
By the way, there are no audio repairs in the audio track of the DVD out
now, which is a testament to how great Steve Perry sings and how great
Journey played when these recordings were made.
Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.
And thank you for the Greatest Hits DVD!
I have been watching it as much as I can. Will there be any possibility of a DVD with Steve Perry's videos?
I just think that would be awesome!
I don't think there's enough material for a solo Steve Perry DVD, but I
will ask him if there's any additional footage or material that he would
consider releasing in a DVD.
John, as an avid Journey fan, of course I bought the new DVD last Tuesday
and was simply blown away.
I love the sound on surround.
The question I have is on the discography.
On the Trial by Fire there is an extra track after the bonus track "Baby
I'm Leaving You".
Is this just a misprint or am I missing something?
Thanks again for the "new" Journey stuff!!!
Thanks for the kind words on the DVD.
I'm not really sure what you're asking, but I can tell you to the best
of my knowledge, there is not extra track after the bonus track on Trial
By Fire.
Please feel free to send clarification if this doesn't answer your question.
I wanted to share my thoughts with you on Journeys Greatest Hits DVD.
The picture and sound are fantastic.
For many Journey fans its been a long time coming and well worth the wait.
Thank you and Steve Perry for taking the time to put this DVD together.
The legacy of Journey and what they brought to their fans will never fade
away.
I hope the sales of this DVD prove to be profitable so more DVD's will
be released.
Thank you very much for sharin
This is why I do what I do and it makes it all worth it to hear how much
you enjoy it.

December 22, 2003 |
First and foremost, I would like to congratulate you and the Webmistress for
taking the time to manage and allow us to interact with you on this very
entertaining site.
Making me feel like a kid again... Congrats again.
My thoughts are on the new position you recently acquired with Sanctuary
Records and the possibility of you signing up my forever favorite band
Journey (fan for the past 24 years), that are out of a record label presently.
It is no secret that there is a lot of respect between you and the band
members as well as ex-member Steve Perry.
Am I wrong to grin at the idea that this could be one of the main success
story of year 2004 that you are looking into?
And if so, would you push your powers to the extent of trying to re-include
Mr. Perry in the equation?
(Based on an article that quoted Neal Schon saying that if John Kalodner
had his way during the Trial by Fire era, Steve Perry would have probably
still been in the line-up today).
Don't get me wrong, I love the Journey line-up as is and think the Arrival
album was amazing and am one of the few, from what I can read, that see
the opportunity to have two great sources of
Journey and Steve Perry solo even though my favorite musicians in Journey
were the two Steves and Neal.
I would be the happiest person in the world if I could sign Journey with
Steve Perry.
But it's up to Steve Perry.
As for signing Journey with Steve Augeri singing in 2004, even though Mr.
Augeri is maybe one of the loveliest guys I know, and is certainly an adequate
singer to represent Journey in a concert setting, I don't think I would
sign that line-up to make new recordings with the information that I have.

November 11, 2003 |
After the mention of the much anticipated DVD that is to be released in
November, I read that it may not be the only one (in the future) that you
& Sony will have to offer.
I have seen the listing of the footage that will be on the DVD to be released
in November - I have my pre-order in!
My question is this.....Is there any plan or possibility of additional
live concert footage to be available from the Infinity-Evolution-Departure
era?
Thanks again!
I'm about to work with Steve Perry on a concert DVD with footage from the
early 80's shot in Houston, Texas.
It will be a full concert of the superstar Journey line-up, newly mixed
in 5.1 for DVD.
It will be released sometime in 2004.
You heard it here first!
You get so many questions re: why doesn't Steve do this or why doesn't
he do that.
I (like most people) hope he decides (when the time is right for him) to
perform and/or write again, but I don't think I'm alone in thinking that
he has given us so much already, that he deserves a life of his choosing.
After all, none of us have been put through the kind of meat grinder that
he has been through and none of us can imagine what it must be like to
have absolutely no privacy
My first question is a simple one (since you talk to him daily):
How is Steve doing?
We ordinary fans don't get to hear much about his everyday life (and rightfully
so) but many of us just care about the guy and hope things are going well
for him.
Please don't think I am asking you to discuss any details of his private
life.
I'm just asking if he's healthy, happy and doing what he wants to do?
My second question is pertaining to the DVD project:
Is Steve planning on including any new interviews or better yet, any voice
commentary on the new DVDs?
Steve Perry is happy and healthy and he looks great.
Although we are working on new DVD projects, I don't know if he is planning
on having any new interviews or creating voice commentaries.
I think he likes to leave the past work in its proper historical context
- I don't think he feels the need or desire to add new things to it.
