TERADAYA RYOKAN

幕末に起こった寺田屋事件や、坂本竜馬の定宿等で著名な旅籠船宿。現在も旅館として営業中。寺田屋事件では尊壌激派の薩摩藩士・有馬新七ら九名が遭難。坂本竜馬も慶応２年、宿泊中に襲撃され負傷した。竜馬が好んだ部屋、騒動の折につけられた刀痕のどが当時のままに保存され見学も可能。現在の宿泊料は朝食付きで７０００円。

This was traditionally an inn and boat dock. It is well known as the location of the Teradaya Incident of 1862, in which the local lord, Hisamitsu Shimazu, quelled the uprisng of the radical party of Satsuma Prefecture. This inn, a faorite of Ryoma Sakamoto, was also the scene of anothr famous incident during the struggle to depose the shogunate and restore the Emperor to power in 1866.Ryoma, a loyalist, was chased from his hidout here by the shogun's troops. Ryoma favored the Ume no Ma and stayed in it very often. Ryouma's portrat still hangs in that room, and the sword marks on the pillars are still visible. Teradaya is open daily to the public, and fans of Ryoma often stay in the Ume no ma.
