勝林院

SHORIN-IN　TEMPLE

他宗派の僧が法然上人を招いて、念仏により極楽往生ができるかどうかの問答「大原問答」が行われ、最後は法然上人が全員を論破した場所。大原問答の時に証拠に立たされたことから証拠阿弥陀と称され、また本堂を証拠堂と呼ぶ。子院は、実光院と宝泉院。

This subordinate temple of Enryakuji Temple was built between 851 and 853 by Priest Jinku. The present main hall was constructed in 1778 and enshrines the main figure, seated Amida Buddha. When Honen, the founder of Jodo Buddhism,held the famous Ohara-Mondo with other priests, he made this figure shine to prove he could save people using chants. For this reason, the figure is known as "the Proving Amida". The temple's beautiful tower, na Important Cultural Property, and the bell near the main hall remain unchanged.
