Hair Picture - July 2008(Emi's style for hair care)

EMI URL

Hi Everyone that may read this :) !

Today I am writing about my progress of growing out my hair.
I have to note that my hair went through hell and back in the past..
I used to get it dyed with chemical hair dye monthly ever since I was 12 yrs. old.
Nowadays I only use Henna and my hair has been much happier about that.
I am also growing out layers which are somewhere around elbow length right now.
I trim frequently and am very patient to get the result I want.
I am hoping to thicken up my lengths and even up my hemline in the future.

_______________________

Facts about my hair:

Texture: Very straight, not many people have really straight hair here
so I get funny comments from tim to time.

Thickness of hairs: That would be MEDIUM with 0.06- 0.07 mm

Overall Volume: 10.5 cm is what my ponytail circumference measures right now.

Color: Darkbrown (the Henna makes it look a little red though)

Length: 104 cm, measured from front hairline down my back (common measuring system)

Monthly Growth: ca. 1.7cm now

Washing: Every 7 days, Only organic products with mild detergeant
(Earthly Delight Shampoo and Conditioner),
My hair is oiled from washday 3-6 and up in a bun or some other updo.
I use Camellia or Coconut Oil.

Combs: 1 Wide Toothed Beechwood Comb and one finetoothed Boxwood Comb,
Boar Bristle Brush from Kent Brushes (UK)

I have been trimming frequently recently,
sadly I will not have much length gain like that
but I just could not stand my uneven hemline anymore:

My hair grows into that V shape within 2 months only -_- ! Kirai...

This is what I meant to respond last time I posted here:

Thank you for the nice welcome.
Unfortunately my Japanese is not good enough to read your last responses.
私の日本語わあまりよくないです
全部が忘れました…
I can read and write hiragana and katakana, only 100 kanji, also my vocabulary is very limited.

@Wind

I’m glad you think my Hair type is ideal for growing.
I was told different in the past.
People used to talk bad about my hair when I tried growing it out as a young teenager..
saying that I don’t have the type of hair that would grow well
and how it’s too straight and thin..
My family constantly suggested a perm to me 
Box Wood Combs as well as Camellia Oil are not very popular in Europe
I just feel like they work well for me.
The comb is really smooth and gentle and the Oil leaves my hair soft.
I have tried other Oils but they don’t work for me.
Vintage Hair Styles are also not popular among Europeans
since they prefer shorter fashionable Hair Cuts.
In Germany my hair is very much out of the ordinary because of length,
 straight texture and darker color.
I like old fashioned Hair Styles since I am a medieval reenactor.
I wanted to have authentic hair ^^..->

BSL= Bra Strap Length

I started dyeing my hair at the age of twelve..
first I bleached it with Sun In Spray and later
I used Semi Permanent Hair Dye which after 9 years made my hair break off.
It is resilient but sooner or later hair dye damages everyone’s hair.
When I gave up dyeing I had highlights which I wanted covered up.
But the stylist picked the wrong color and my hair ended up black..

I am still growing this out, its painful.

I trim my Hair for different reasons:

-To get rid of old layers, my hair was very layered and cut with a razor.
-To grow out the breakage from dye.
-Because of those two reasons above and natural reasons my hair tapers a lot meaning it thins out.
I barely have any splits, but I want to keep my hairs thickness stable or even improve.

My husband likes long hair but for him everything below shoulder is ‘long’.
It would not bother him if my hair was shorter I think.
He does not tell me much what he thinks about it..just: : “it looks fine”.

I thought growing my hair when he was in Iraq was a nice gesture.
The other wifes just ran to the Hair Salon and got manicure before their husbands get home
but I have been working on my looks ( and hair) for over a year and cared for it 

@果奈
Yes, it would be very nice if you could write it in English. Thank you :)

Hi Emi!

Sorry for my being behind in with an answer.
I am glad to read your report of hair's growing again.
Your hair is longer and more beautiful than before, taking good care of
everyday.
I want so much to learn your enriched hair care .
I am afraid you and your husband don't have common ideas of the length
of hair ,but you seem to love deeply of your partner oneself each other .
It is all right if you try to mutually believe and understand all the time,
I think.

P.S.
My handle name is 果, the Chinese character ,meaning fruitfulness and bravery.
I like the former meaning.I enjoy eating!

See you!

                                Your kana.

Emi

Thank you for your responses! :)

ゆい YUI,

I perfectly understood what you wrote.
Funny, how I don't feel like my hair is long. I think I got too used to it.
What length do you have now and what is your goal length?

My goal length has been changing a lot. At first it was Bra Strap Length...
and from there I decided to go longer and longer and longer...

My next photograph will be submitted in September,
I am taking some time for trims to achieve an even hemline.

果奈

You don't have to apologize, it was me that has not been on Long Hair Salon for a while.

Thank you for the compliment. I am not 100% satisfied with the way my hair looks yet
but I love caring for it.
Some people think it is work or annoying,
but I think everyone here will understand that it is a nice thing.

You can ask me any question about my hair care if you like, I will happily answer.

I *think* my husband likes my long hair, he is just very "manly" about it ^^.
He is opening up more and also learning about hair care.
He even adviced the neighbour to stop ruining her hair with chemical dye and use Henna instead..hazukashii..

果 That is a very interesting character in your name , sounds unique.
Oh I think for fruit theres -> フルーツ and the alternative -> 果物(くだもの), is that where its from?
Haha, its good you enjoy eating makes it suitable. :)

This is how my name is written 絵美,

I like both kanji, my interpretation to make it fit is funny:
絵 - I like pictures, photography as well as paintings and painting and drawing myself.
美 - I like everything beautiful, it really does apply to most things in my life ^^.

Nice talking to both of you!

I'm deeply moved by your instant response.
What I said isn't the compliment!Your daily care makes your long hair more
splendid.

>You can ask me any question about my hair care if you like, I will happily answer.
My question to you is as follows.
How much quantity of Camellia and Coconut Oil do you use in once?It depends
on the condition of your hair ,dosen't it?

I'm relieved to hear that your husband is a man of great understanding.
The more people in your neighbourhood will follow your "manly" husband's
advice, the more ladies around you can get hair as beautiful as you.

>果 That is a very interesting character in your name , sounds unique. Oh I think for fruit theres

Haha, its good you enjoy eating makes it suitable. :)

A part of my handlename ,果, is meaning fruits on the trees in origin.
The other meaning of 果,the bravery 果敢 is derived from the fruit of one's
efforts.
One need bravery to obtain good results or achieve a brilliant success.
See the Web site; http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E6%9E%9C
Your interpretation of 絵美 is very interesting for me.
We expect your exiciting report next time.

To answer your question:

"How much quantity of Camellia and Coconut Oil do you use in once?It depends
on the condition of your hair ,dosen't it?"
____________________________________________________________________________

Yes, you are right- the condition of the hair plays an important role.
But also the coarseness and natural dryness level.
OIL is the hairs natural moisture, our scalp produces it to nourish the hair
and sadly people spend way to much time 'cleaning' their hair which drys it out over time.
So by adding natural oils to the hair we can give the hair some of its mositure back.
There is different oils also, some have molecules that can not penetrate into the hair shaft (Jojoba),
some are less moisturizing or lighter (Rose).
Camellia Oil and Coconut Oil are very rich Oils that penetrate well.

Since I oil frequently I apply small amounts only to my hair.
Depending on what I intend to do the following days I use about 2-5 drops.
Some times I apply them to my whole length and sometimes only to the ends.
My scalp will only get Oil Treatments on days off, I can not look too oily in public ;)

It is usually best to apply Oil to dry hair,
wet hair will soak up the oil well at firt but since Oil and water can not bind there is the risk
that you lock water into your hair which will take longer to dry up.
That process can dry out your hair a bit.

Hair that is very dry might have to get use to Oil first, it can feel "crunchy" after oiling.
You can tell how well your hair soaks up the oil on day 2, it will be less oily than the day before.
You can oil it some more then - "think of it like "feeding your hair"...

Some more facts about Oil and Hair

- coarse hair (thick strands) have a bigger tendency for dryness, fine hair is more oily.
- There is naturally oily and dry hairtypes
- Washing less frequent will give your hair more time to soak up oils,
the natural sebum as well as added oils.
- If you need your hair to be very clean (hair down days, special events)
you can shampoo your hair with baking soda + shampoo.
It will remove any build up and oily residue in a natural way.
- Opt for mild shampoos with mild cleansers/ detergents.
Chemicals like Sodium Laureth/ Lauryl Sulfate do dry out the Hair emmensely
(and are also suspected to be carcinogens)

HOPE THAT HELPS ^-^

- And I would love to see a world in which women take good care of their hair (and appearance).
Many do not have the knowledge and believe advertisement a little too much.
I love giving people advice.

Emi

hank you for your kindness to answer my question and give me a good advice !
To tell the Truth, I have so far made more of washing than of moisturizing by
oil.
Your instructive advice persuades me into finding an important role of
oil, especially Camellia Oil and Coconut Oil ,in mositurizing hair and scalp.
Avoiding chemicals and using natural materials do our bodies and hair
very well indeed!
I hope that you give many people advice to get beautiful hair ,not following
harmful advertisement.

P.S.
My handlename 果奈,which I named myself in this site, isn't real name.
My real name is another, which my parents had named me in the birth.
I like both names.

Hi Emi san
I am sorry that I have not replied to you for these days.

I am surprised to hear that you used to have dyed your hair since you are 12 years old.
Seldom children dye their hair in Japan.
Many Japanese women start to dye their hair at their high school years or later.
Is it popular for children in Europe or US to dye their hair ?
I agree with your hair cut policy. To trim end and even up hemline is good for health of hair
as well as for its good looks, I think.
Your frequency of washing hair is much less than average one of Japanese women.
I guess that it is influenced by humidity. The humidity in Japan is rather higher than it in Europe or US.

Your last picture is good for its shining hair. Your hemline becomes even.
There exist some women whose hair grow inhomogeneously.

I guess that the reason why your straight hair was used to be considered not to be suitable for grow long
should be cultural and racial difference between Europe and Japan.
Natural perm is majority for Caucasian,
so many of them think that long hair is natural and beautiful with permanent hair.
However, straight hair is majority for East Asian,
so many of them think that long hair is natural and beautiful with straight hair.
I think that your straight hair come from your gene of half Japanese.

"Emi's style for hair care" is added to the title of this article.
