台湾鐵路（台鐵）
The Taiwan Railway Administration (abbreviated TRA) is an agency of Republic
of China Ministry
of Transportation and Communications responsible for managing, maintaining,
and running passenger
and freight service on 1097 kms of conventional railroad lines in Taiwan.
As Taiwan is heavily
urbanized with a high population density, railways have always played an
important part in domestic
transportation. Most of the main lines are fully electrified and service
is generally efficient and reliable.
 
Taipei Main Station railway platforms are located on the B2 level.
台北地下駅から近距離電車、中長距離列車が発着する
台湾鐵路管理局（略称：台鐵）は、 台湾国有鐵道のうちの1つで、日本の国土交通省に相当する
中華民国交通部の運営するもの。 台湾西部を中心に日本統治時代に建設された路線が多く、
軌間（ゲージ）は日本のJR在来線と同じ 1067mmの狭軌である。新たに建設された台湾高速
鐵道（高鐵）の経営は台湾鐵路（台鐵）とは別個で競合している部分もある。台北駅の高鐵と
台鐵の改札口は地下１階に並んである。ホーム（月台）は地下２階に設けられている。列車が
近づくとMRT（地下鉄）と同じように赤い警告ランプが黄色の警告ライン上に点滅する。

台湾鉄路（台鉄）の新型特急（海線）
「自強号」は台鐵で運行する長距離列車で日本の特急に相当する。列車の運賃は列車ごとにそれぞれ
の運賃体系があり、列車を特定しないと料金計算ができない。各駅停車の「区間車」は同じ区間でも
「自強号」より遙かに安い。「自強号」などの長距離列車はすべて全席指定席で立っている人はいない。
人気列車は発売と共に売り切れる。筆者は上記ポスターの列車で台湾の東海岸沿いを南下したかった
が、残念ながら満席となっていた。台湾を南北に走行する台鐵縦貫線は二本あり、そのうち、山脈の
西を走る鐵路を「山線」、東の海側を走る鐵路を「海線」という。

「自強号」は台北-高雄間まで4時間40分かかる。一方､高鐵の高速列車はほぼ同じ区間を１時間36分で
走り抜ける。鉄道料金は台鐵が845元であるのに対し、高鐵は普通車指定席の場合、1,490元
（商務席は1,950元）と２倍近い（２倍を超えた）金額となる。そのため、当初想定されていた台鐵側から
高鐵側への乗客転移は予測値をやや下回った。市街地は台鐵の駅を中心に形成されたのでアクセス
の面では高鐵側より遙かに有利である。また旅行者にとって重要な景観は地平レベルを走ることの
多い台鐵の方が優れている。

台鐵の南の終着駅、高雄駅に到着した特急列車「自強号」
台鐵台北駅( Taipei Main Station )10:00発、高雄駅( Kaohsiung Station )14:44着の正確な運行で、
沿線の風景を楽しみながら時間の経過すら忘れた旅であった。

台湾と日本の人たちに大人気の台鐵便當（弁当）は５０年以上の歴史をもっと言われているが、
味が良く値段も安いためとても好評だ。台湾旅行の際にはぜひとも食してみたい。値段は60元から、
日替わりメニューの便當もあり、とてもおいしかったので翌日に同じ便當屋で探したが、見つける
ことは出来なかった。
