Stockholm is the capital and the largest city of Sweden. It is the site of the Swedish
government, parliament and official residence of the king of Sweden as well as a prime
minister. As of 2008, the Stockholm metropolitan area is the home of about 21% of
total population. About two million people live in the Stockholm metropolitan area. Due
to the high northerly latitude, daylight varied widely from more than 18 hours in
midsummer, to only around 6 hours in late December in the city of Stockholm.

ストックホルムはスウェーデン最大の都市で、人口は約７５万人、都市が水面に囲まれており、「北欧の
ヴェネツィア」とも言われている。水路はバルト海に流れ込む。見るべき多くの建物はストックホルム中央駅
から徒歩圏内にあり、自転車専用道も設けられており、レンタサイクルで回ることも出来る。

王宮近くにあるガムラ・スタン、Vasterlanggatan通りを中心とする地区は古い街並みをそのまま
保存している。１５世紀には新しい城壁が築かれ、この地区が組み込まれた。それ以来、
多くの人々がこの道を利用して来た。今、ストックホルム観光スポットの中心として、いつも
沢山の観光客でごった返している。

さすがデザインの国、スウェーデン。ストックホルム中央駅のすぐ近くに位置するこのホテルを照明デザインと

ストックホルムの夏は快適だ。しかも日照時間が長い。１年で一番気温が高い７月の最高気温は
２１°ときわめて快適である。夜は午後１０時過ぎまで明るいので旅するものにとって一日を十二分に
堪能できる。反面、冬は非常に厳しい。最低気温は１０月から４月まで零下となる。１月、２月は
零下５度まで低下する。その時の日照時間は６時間あまりとなり、午後３時には日が沈む。
そして誰もが暗く長い夜を過ごさねばならない。
