Ohio is a mid eastern state of the United States. The population of the
state is estimated
as 11.5 million. The manufacturing and financial activity sectors each
composes the 18.3%
of gross domestic product (GDP) of Ohio, which was $466 billion in 2007,
making the Ohio's
largest industries. This ranks Ohio's economy as the seventh-largest of
all fifty states.
However, the unemployment rate in Ohio currently stands at 8.8%, in comparison
to a

Statewide Smoking Ban in Ohio
The Ohio Revised Code prohibits all forms of tobacco smoke in all public
place and places of
employment and in areas immediately next to the ingress or egress of the
public place or
place of employment. A proprietors must assure that tobacco-smoke does
not enter the area
where smoking is prohibited through entrances, windows, ventilation systems,
or other means.
The following areas may be exempt: e.g.
● Sleeping rooms in hotels, motels or other lodging facilities, if it does
not exceed the 25%
of total guest rooms.
● Family owned and operated business where all the employees are family
members.
The business is not open to the public, and the business is in a free standing
building.
No Smoking signs or symbol shall be conspicuously posted in every public
place and
place of employment. Signs shall be of sufficient size to be clearly legible
to a person
of normal vision throughout the areas they are intended to mark. All ashtrays
and other
receptacles using for disposing of smoking materials shall be removed from
any area,
in which smoking is prohibited.

In May 2007, the State of Ohio banned smoking in all restaurants, bars,
and workplaces
with very few exceptions. All places of employment or public places must
prohibit all
smoking indoors and post legible no smoking signs at all entrances. Furthermore,
all
public places must remove all ashtrays and other smoking receptacles. A
business
may be fined up to $2,500 and individuals $100 if they violate the ban.

オハイオ州でレストラン、バー、職場を全面禁煙に 2007年5月に職場、レストラン、バーに於ける
全面禁煙規制を施行した。すべての公共建物内の喫煙は禁止され、入口に禁煙標識を掲示せねば
ならない。すべての灰皿および類似装置は撤去せねばならない。2008年6月、従業員をタバコ副流煙
の害から守るため、州最高裁判所は今まで例外扱いであったプライベートクラブでの喫煙行為を
禁止した。法令に違反した場合は個人は100ドル、飲食店などの施設は最高、2500ドルの罰金を
支払わねばならない。
公用車などの車内での喫煙禁止は、2008年4月にオハイオ州カルバー知事が法案に署名したが、
同年11月には知事の妻が公用車内で喫煙したことが報道され、物議を醸した。しかし、このことは
オハイオ州の受動喫煙防止法をかえって有名にしたようだ。彼女は2007年に一旦禁煙したが、
喫煙の誘惑に負け、再び吸い始めたとメディアは伝えている。
