New York City Subway

The New York City Subway is a rapid transit system owned by the City of New York and released
to the City Transit Authority. It is one of the oldest and most extensive public transportation
systems in the world. The number of lines is 26, the number of stations is 468. Among the
world's busiest metro systems, it is the only one to run 24 hours a day ,365 days a year.


ニューヨーク地下鉄・JFK国際空港エアトレイン　ニューヨーク地下鉄の路線は極めて複雑で長期間滞在しない
とわかりにくい。 同じホームにいくつもの系統の電車が到着する。うっかり Uptown, Downton の表示を
見誤ると反対方向の電車に 乗ってしまう。近くの乗客の言葉はあてにならない。次の駅で降りて元に
戻ろうとしても通過駅の場合はそれも 出来ない。急行のとまる駅まで乗ってそこでＵターンするしかない。
路線名は１，２，３，４，５，６，A,B,C,・・・・・・・・・・と非常に多い。乗り間違えることが多いので方向と
路線名とを瞬時に確認してから乗車せねばならない。

2004年以降、A,E,J,Z の４路線が AirTrainに接続している。Aラインでは Haward Beach 駅がJFK 空港駅と
なっている。マンハッタン島からケネディ国際空港へはA　ラインが便利である。道路の渋滞で遅延する
こともなく50分ほどでミッドタウンに到着する。AirTrain と Subwayとの移動はエスカレターなどを利用できる
が、マンハッタン地区をはじめ地下鉄の駅では階段を上下せねばならないので、重いスーツケースなどを
抱えている場合は、それなりの覚悟が必要だ。

地下鉄料金は２ドルで１回乗車出来る。メトロカードは６回乗車出来る１０ドル券がある。クレジットカード
で購入することが出来る。注意せねばならないことは Air Train に乗り換えるときに５ドル分残額が
必要である。ただし、AirTrain に乗って空港ターミナル間を移動しても料金はかからない。

AirTrain とニューヨーク地下鉄とはA線 Haward Beach 駅で連絡している他、E,J ,Z 線 では
Sutphin Boulevard 駅で連絡している。地下鉄は比較的早く、安価なので、ニューヨーク市内から、
または市内への移動時に経済的に利用できる利点がある。　ただしエレベーター、エスカレータ
の整備されていない駅も少なくないので、その点も考慮せねばならない。

閉鎖空間内は全面禁煙であることは最早不文律となっているのであろう、空港構内に禁煙標識は
１カ所を除き、全く見当たらなかった。ニューヨークの表玄関、 JFK ニューヨーク国際空港は空港
設備の規模として全米第一、9つのターミナルを各航空会社に割り振っている。
