The United States federal government under various jurisdictions both civilian
and military owns about 86% of
the state's land. Total population in Nevada is estimated 2.6 million and
the 85% of residents in the state live
in the metropolitan areas of Las Vegas and Reno. The state is well known
for its easy marriage and divorce
proceedings, entertainment and legalized gambling. Resort areas of Las
Vegas, Reno, Lake Tahoe and Laughlin
attract visitors from around the nation and world.

Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act
Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act prohibited smoking tobacco in any form in the
places,which locate in
the buildings, where a person is employed. This law is already, in effect,
since December 2006.
The smoking ban applies to the following areas:
(1) the school buildings and on school grounds; child care facilities with
five or more children.
(2) all areas of grocery stores, convenience stores and drug stores
(3) all indoor areas within restaurants, including those in casinos or
gaming establishments
(4) the bars, taverns and saloons that serve food; shopping malls and retail
establishments; video arcades;
government buildings and public places,and movie theaters
The Act states that smoking is permitted in: areas within casinos where
loitering by minors is already
prohibited by state law, stand-alone bars, taverns and saloons that do
not serve food, strip clubs and
brothels; retail tobacco stores and private residences.

ネバタ州のレストラン、カフェ、公共施設は全面禁煙 ネバタ州は日本人にとってもカジノシティとして
有名なラスベガスが最大の都市である。湿気がなく税金もやすいとあって住みやすいとも言われている。
1938年のフーバーダムの完成により豊富な電力を賄うことが出来て、今日のようなネオン輝く街並みが
出現した。筆者は1962年9月にラスベガスとフーバーダムを自分の車で訪れている。ダムを眼下に炎天下
に飲んだコーラのうまさとベガスのイルミネーションの輝きを、今でも脳裏の片隅に刻み込んでいる。
また、ネバタ州で乗っていた車が故障したとき、親切にしてくれた若いアメリカ人カップルのことも
忘れることは出来ない。
2006年12月から施行されている受動喫煙防止法（クリーン・エア・アクト）では学校の建物内、グラウンド、
小児施設、グロサリー、コンビニストア、（広い意味の）薬局、（カジノ施設を含む）すべてのレストラン
室内、劇場、ショッピングモール、ビデオ店、州政府機関などの公共建物などがある。食事を出さない
独立したバー、居酒屋、サロン、ストリップクラブ、風俗営業店、タバコ販売店、および個人住宅は、
屋内空間喫煙禁止の規制から外された。
