The most popular Floating Market in Thailand
The Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is located Damnoen Saduak District,
Ratchaburi Province, about 105 kms from Bangkok. According to history
around 1866 King Rama IV ordered to dig a 32-km long canal at Damnoen
Saduak. Floating Market is a very attractive to tourists to see the old
style
and traditional way of selling and buying fruits and vegetables and living
goods from small boats. Tourists can see traditional Thai houses, the way
they live and travel by boats.
バンコクから105キロほどの舗装道路をタクシーで１時間30分かかるダムヌン
・サドゥアク(Damnoen Saduak ) の水上マーケットに向かう。
途中、道路の両側に無数の池が見られたが、最初、エビの養殖場と思ったが、それは
塩田であった。塩を収穫する前の田んぼは一面白く光っており、なるほどと思う。塩は
かごに入れられて無造作に放置されているが、売り物のようでもある。手にとって
なめてみたがとてもおいしい。

塩田の畦に無造作に置かれた塩のバスケットと利用したタクシー
水上マーケット150年前につくられたという運河で行われている。周りには椰子の林が
立ち並び、小舟に乗ったまま売り買いを行うという伝統を守っている。今は完全に
商業化されており、貸し切りボート代はタイの物価水準から見ても高額である。
ボートツアーはココナツ向上から始まる。ココナツを作る課程から独特のコクのある
ココナツ砂糖までが並ぶ。土産物としても価値がありそう。高床式の建物のすぐ下がもう
水面である。ボートは移動に欠かせないためか自家用ボートをつるしてある家が目立つ。

this journey, there are
interesting sights of water-front houses, colorful gardens and a tiny temple
along a canal.
Watch the water level is almost the same to the floor of the house.

ボートがマーケットに近づくとにわかに活気づいてきた。運河の両脇には若い女性の売り子が
何でも売り込もうと必死に声をかけて来る。お土産品、帽子、なんでもある。しかし、どうしても
買いたいような品は少ない。数隻の船には中年のおばさんたちが果物などを売っている。
ラーメンのような麺類を調理して売る人もいる。沢山のモンキーバナナも積み込まれており、
大きな一房を５０バーツで買った。とてもおい。
名残つきない水上マーケットを後にバンコクに戻った。この国のどこの都市でもそうだが、
王室の写真と黄色の王室の旗はあらゆる場所で見受けられた。これはタイ王国独特の
光景であろう。
