Beverly Hills is a city in the western part of Los Angeles County, California. Beverly Hills and
the neighboring city of West Hollywood are together entirely surrounded by the Los Angeles city
area. The 'Platinum Triangle' areas of wealthy neighborhoods are formed by Beverly Hills and
the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Bel Air and Holmby Hills. The population was about 35,000
as of the 2006 census. Beverly Hills is home to countless Hollywood celebrities and the wealthy.

Beverly Hills Outdoor Dining Smoking Ban

Beverly Hills is one of the richest cities in America. It attracts tourists from around the world and
is home to many expensive hotels and restaurants.

An ordinance banning smoking in nearly all outdoor dining areas in Beverly Hills took effect in October, 2007.
The purpose of this law is to aim to provide a healthier environment and cleaner air for diners and
pedestrians. The smoking ban applies to all outdoor dining areas, including restaurants located in hotels.

The Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and his friend, the actor Sylvester Stallone, have
been known to enjoy a cigar on the patio of a local cafe. However, such smoking will be banned from
October after Beverly Hills city council voted to create smoke-free areas outside restaurants.
However, people will be able to smoke in sectioned-off areas around hotel swimming pools.

The ordinance imposes a $100 fine for the first offense, a $200 fine for a second offense within one year
and a $500 for fine for each additional violation within one year.

ビバリーヒルズでも飲食店屋外で喫煙禁止 　大富豪や映画俳優歌手などハリウッドスターが集う街、
全米有数の高級住宅街として世界的に知られている、カリフォルニア州ビバリーヒルズ市でこのほど
同市内のレストラン、カフェの屋外スペースを全面禁煙とする条例が成立した。2007年10月から施行される。
この条例によりテラス席での喫煙が違法になる。屋内での喫煙はすでにカリフォルニア州法で禁止されて
いる。違反者には最低100ドルの罰金が科せられる。

地元のレストラン協会は観光客の減少を招くとして同条例案に反対したが、非喫煙者の市民や観光客の
間で受動喫煙に対する懸念が強まっていたため、市議会は満場一致で喫煙規制条例を可決した。
