Basel, Switzerland
Basel is Switzerland's third most populous city with about 166,000 inhabitants.
It is located where
the Swiss, French and German borders meet. Basel also has suburbs in France
and Germany,
with 830,000 inhabitants in the tri-national urban agglomeration. Basel
is Switzerland's
second-largest metropolitan area. Located in northwest Switzerland on the
river Rhine, Basel
functions as a major centre for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.
The Basel region,
culturally extending into German Baden-Wurttemberg and French Alsace, reflects
the heritage
of its three states in the modern Latin name: Regio TriRhena. Basel is
mainly German-speaking.

As seen in other European cities, an outside terrace seat of restaurants
is quite common.
It is the same in the city located in Barfussenplatzof Basal.
Basal has an extensive public transportation network serving the city and
connecting to
surrounding suburbs, including a large tram network, and has long held
an important place
as a rail hub. Basel SBB is the central railway station in the city of
Basel in Switzerland.
Trains run by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) to destinations within Switzerland
use
this station, as well as Deutsche Bahn ICE trains to Germany as well as
Zurich, Interlaken
and the Cisalpino service across the Alps to Milan in Italy. Basel Badischer
Bahnhof is
on the opposite side of the city.

Hotel Victoria Basel is located in front of the Basal SBB Bahnhof. This
hotel is smoke-free
and no-smoking rooms are provided among the total 107 rooms. Ramada Hotel
Basel
Conference Center is a tall building, and has a total of 224 rooms. The
number of smoking
rooms is 25, equivalent to 11.2% of the total. Swiss Hotel Plaza Basel
has 238 guest rooms,
of which five smoking rooms, consisting of 2.1% of total rooms. Mercure
Hotel Europe Basel
has 18 smoking rooms among the entire 158 guest rooms. The percentage of
smoking rooms to
the total is 11.4%. Two restaurants are non-smoking. Smoking is allowed
in the bar in the hotel.
スイス北西部、ライン川のほとりに位置し、ドイツ、フランス、スイス3国の国境が接する地点にある。
ユーロ圏ではなく、バーゼル駅の店ではユーロは使用できない。スイス・フランはユーロを使用する
欧州連合の狭間にあって孤島のような存在となっている。しかし、世界でも最も安定した通貨であり、
ドル、ユーロ、日本円とともに重要な地位にあることに変わりない。ノヴァルティスおよびロッシュの
本社があり、製薬業の世界的都市でもある。
鉄道駅は賑やかなSBB駅と住宅地を控えたBBB（バーゼル・バディッシャー）駅との二つの駅と線路が
市街地を囲んでいる。フランスやドイツ国用のユーロパスでもバーゼル駅を利用することが出来る。
レストランとカフェは公共的空間に含まれ、禁煙であると定められているが、罰金を伴う法的規制か
自主的規制を期待したものか明確ではない。バーゼルのバーでは喫煙出来る。
