Arrival to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport
Suvarnabhumi Airport also known as New Bangkok International Airport, is
the airport serving
Bangkok Thailand. The airport has 2 parallel runways (60 m. wide, 4,000
m. and 3700 m. long) and
2 parallel taxiways to accommodate simultaneous departures and arrivals.
With a capacity of handling
76 flight operations per hour, both international and domestic flights
will share the airport terminal
but will be assigned to different parts of the concourse.
An air traffic control tower of New Bangkok International Airport is 132
meter-high,the highest in the world.
空港管制塔の高さは１３２メートルで世界一
バンコク・スワンナブーム国際空港は世界最大級の空港である。2006年9月に開港した。空港ターミナルビルに
入ると先ず驚かされるのは、その先進的なデザインと広さである。空港ターミナルビルはドイツ人建築家、
ヘルムート・ヤーンが設計した。建設は日本の大林組、竹中建設とイタリア・タイの合弁会社が担当した。
地上７階建て、地下2階建てである。旅客ターミナルビルの総床面積は563,000㎡と世界一の広さを誇り、
アジアのハブを目指すタイの新時代の象徴として進められた国家プロジェクトである。

2009年1月現在、高速鉄道は運行されていないが、完成すれば市内のマッカサン駅と15分で結ぶ。空港からの
アクセスは二人以上ならタクシーの利用が便利だ。バンコク市内中心部より30キロほどで所要時間１時間、
タクシー料金は800バーツである（所要時間、料金は一定ではない）。途中、高速道路を利用する。

バンコク・スワンナブーム国際空港の禁煙標識は出入口近くにのみ表示されており、空港内は特定の
喫煙場所のみの案内となっている。コンコースには航空機から降り立った喫煙者のための喫煙ルームが
先ず目についた。しかし、その扉に常時ドアを閉めておくように表示されていたが、守られていなかった。
喫煙者自身も他人のタバコ副流煙を吸い込んで苦しいのであろう、足でドアをロックして喫煙、強い
刺激臭をともなう有害煙が通路に漂っていた。
