Alberta Alberta is located in western Canada, east of British Columbia, bounded by the U.S. sate of Montana. The capital, Edmonton locates about 300 Km north of Calgaly、with about 730,000 and 980,000 population, respectively. Jasper, Alberta The capital of Alberta is Edmonton, located just south of the centre of the province. Calgary locates roughly, 300 kms south of the capital, is the Alberta's largest city and a major distribution and transportation hub as well as one of Canada's commerce centres. Edmonton is the primary supply and service hub for Canada's oil sands and other northern resource industries. According to recent population estimates, these two metropolitan areas have now both exceeded 1 million people. It prohibits smoking in all public places and workplaces since January 1, 2008; It bans retail displays, advertising and promotion of tobacco products. It prohibits the sale of tobacco products from all health-care facilities, public post-secondary campuses, pharmacies and stores that contain a pharmacy effective January 2009. Under this Act, tobacco products include any products composed in whole or in part of tobacco, including tobacco leaves or any extract of tobacco leaves. This includes: Cigarettes; Cigars; Cigarillos; Pipe tobacco; and Special tobacco products like chewing tobacco, sinus and snuff The Tobacco Reduction Act protects Albertans from the harmful effects of second hand-smoke by removing smoking from public places, workplaces and public vehicles. Smoking is limited to private living accommodations and vehicles. In 2007 Bill 45 was passed in Alberta with strong support from the Canadian Cancer Society. January, 2008 - all Alberta public and work places became smoke free. July 2008 - power walls and other tobacco displays or promotion were covered or removed in retail stores around the province. January, 2009 the final decree was implemented removing tobacco from pharmacies, health care facilities, and post secondary institutions.  The legislation also instituted that no person shall smoke: The Inside space of a building The areas within 5 metres of a doorway, window or air intake On a patio related to a business, restaurant, lounge or night club. A bus, taxi, public transit, bus shelter, or phone booth The inside spaces of bars, bingo halls and casinos Public areas of a multi-unit residential facility, including patios, pools Enclosed parking garages Report an infraction If you see any infraction against the Tobacco Reduction Act, feel free to contact local authorities such as Bylaw officers, RCMP, or city police.
