Timeline of Prax, Dagori Inkarth and the Wastelands

Copyright c1997 Peter Metcalfe, save for the copyright bits quoted from other credited sources which is (ha ha) at least 90% of the document. But then that's them Great Poets for ya... Written 25 Jan 1998

Commentary:: This chronology contains events limited to the lands which it describes. For instance, the fact that the EWF dsintegrated in 1042 ST is common knowledge yet it is not recorded here due to it having occurred outside the area. I have stuck mainly to published material and have shied away from interpretations and interpolations. If you have any questions, corrections and/or mindless trivia that you feel compelled to share with me upon reading this, then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Revisions: Given the scanty knowledge about some periods in history, this document will almost certainly be revised. For example, a battle called Lost Hope Won is mentioned in ToTRM#15 but no year is given. If I find out then I will add the dates in. In such a case, this section will contain a brief precis of the revisions to date.

14/2 Following comments by MOB and Jane Williams, I have revised the wording in the succession of Counts and added a small note of how Counts might be replaced. Entries for 1610 ST and 1621 ST have been revised.

Notes

Replacement of Counts:

It was pointed out that the assumption of Counts dying at the end of their reign was unsustainable. MOB suggests the standard ways in which Counts can be replaced (with italicized comments from Jane Williams):

I think forceable retirement and immurement in a retirement tower would be the main way to dispose of a former count (blinding is optional). One or two may have disappeared on the Hero Plane, or died in rituals that have gone wrong. And, perhaps, reappeared in other rituals, later, to cause major embarrasment all round - Jane Williams. I like to think at least one was vaporised by Yelm when calling upon the god to test his moral rectitude when accussed of some indiscretion. One may have done the Arkat thing and voluntarily retired and gone back to the farm. During the bad times several counts are likely to have been taken prisoner by the nomads, or killed by them (do the Praxians make drinking vessels out of trepanned skulls I wonder?, cf. Byzantine Emperor Nicephorus who suffered this fate). Perhaps one was revealed to be a woman (was Shame a Pope Joan type?), or is that too silly? At the River Ritual, surely? - Jane Williams.

Jane Williams does have the sneaking suspicion that the various Tol's are in fact one person.
